MOORE-MYERS CHILDREN’S FUND
Golf is more than a game for participants in Moore-Myers Children’s Fund, Inc. (MMCF). They spend hours on the green learning how to hit that hole-in-one. They also learn critical life skills when they are not on the course.
“I want to teach children the skills of golf. I believe this game can take them to places they have never imagined. It can open doors and networking opportunities and provide scholarship opportunities,” said Dr. Justine Redding, MMCF president/CEO.
She started the nonprofit in 2014 as a way to help kids find a sport that they can be active in for a lifetime. But this educator knew there was so much more to golf. “I know the impact that this can make in a child’s life. We do everything to help with a child’s growth and development to become a wonderful human being. My past involvement with children has taught me the need to continue to give back to children.”
MMCF focuses on and reinforces its core values: confidence, honesty, respect, integrity, judgement, responsibility and perseverance. According to Redding, “The golfers learn to be confident and believe in themselves. They must be committed to what they do. We are not just teaching golf. This is preparation for life. The students have to be committed to the program. They understand the value, love, concern and expectations that are set. They rise to the occasion.”
Redding and her team are in it for the long haul. Over the past 10 years, MMCF has exposed more than 450 kids to golf. They work with instructors and PGA professionals. The golfers put in at least 10 hours a week on the green.
But the lessons do not stop there. “They get life skills. They learn communication skills. They learn practical skills like how to properly write an email. We offer financial literacy. We provide dining etiquette training.”
Coaches with Moore-Myers Children’s Fund call their youth “Eagles.” They help develop and mentor them starting at age five. They teach them that the game of golf is about integrity, values and truth.
Redding knows her Eagles are always ready to soar. “I’m most proud of the relationships I have formed with children and parents that have allowed me to guide their lives. I feel like a universal mother.”
Wealth Watchers supports Moore-Myers Children’s Fund. The leaders believe in all it does to encourage and engage youth. For more information on MMCF, visit moore-myers.org. Get involved and know that “Golf has the Power to Transform the Lives of Kids!”
